Enjoying a wide range of music, I am confident playing, reading and improvising in most musical styles from classical to jazz on both electric and double bass. I am a versatile and adaptable musician at home in any situation from a classical orchestra to a theatre pit to a funk gig. On electric bass I studied with Neil Harland for three years at Newcastle College and studied classical double bass with Jim Bickel for 8 years. I am also a fully qualified lecturer (Cert. Ed MiFL) with a 1st class Bmus (Hons) in Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music from Sunderland University). I didn’t quite finish my MA due to too many gigs but I did go to all the lectures(!). I am very proud to have worked on the fantastic BMus Jazz Popular and Commercial Music course set up by James Birkett. I am also working closely with four fantastic original bands – ‘Nick Pride and the Pimptones’ (Record Kicks / Legere), ‘Joy Atlas’, ‘HAV’ (Folkwit Records) & ‘Harry Bird and the Rubber Wellies’ (Hot Drop Records) – along with lots of theatre and function work.
