Some nice pics of the Customs House Community Orchestra which were taken a few weeks ago at a rehearsal (not concert as it mistakenly says – note the empty seats!!!)

Sharks took the rest – first gig in the bag!
Despite a fairly rushed and stressful sound check, and 3 mins (!) to get all out stuff out on stage and be ready to play in the performance we managed it! Good audience, lots of applause and no mistakes (not that I heard anyway!). So, now that the first gig is out of the way hopefully more will follow and at a more reasonable price too! Til then head over to Sharks Took The Rest to hear a few tracks!
In other news, I’ve booked myself in for a jazz lesson with Steve Berry over the Easter hols which I’m really excited about. And its nearly Easter! Woo hoo! Plus the Pimptones are playing this Sunday at the Highgate Hotel in Durham 8pm – come along if you’re near by, and watch us shock some jazz heads with raucous funk! 🙂
Sharks Took The Rest – first gig
So….first gig for Sharks Took The Rest at the Newcastle Culture Awards 09 – nothing like a low key first gig to try out the new songs and check everything works ok. Only 35 quid a ticket too, well worth it for the three songs we’ll be doing! 🙂 However, worry not, there will be a more reasonably priced gig (with more songs too) in the very near future! Watch this space —-> * space *. And in the meantime head on over to Sharks Took The Rest to listen to a couple of tracks.
Music and education
On Tuesday I went to an exceptionally interesting and stimulating presentation of papers at Newcastle University concerning music and education and our role in it as teachers. Discussion ranged from the validity of teaching notation reading to popular music students to Marx’s ideas on dominant/sub dominant groups and Bourdieu’s ideas on ‘habitus’ and ‘cultural capital’ to the design of music curricula. A lot there to get my teeth into! 🙂
Today I hung out with Justin Grounds a friend of many years
standing, veteran of Keiretsu days and a fantastic musician and person. We talked music, theology, green issues and much more. I’m looking forward to hearing his new material, without guitar but with more loops and electronica.
Tomorrow brings a bit of space before Friday which is packed, including a Pimptones gig at As You Like It and a Sharks rehearsal. Beccy is on the Culture Show too on Friday eve – maybe I can somehow catch it between sets. iplayer on Saturday more likely!
